Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

WHAT CAREER OPTIONS ARE THERE AFTER DOING A TESOL COURSE?
The course is specifically designed to train you to be employment ready as an English Language Teacher.

Your career path in teaching English is likely to be as unique and fabulous as you are. The types of English teaching positions open to you will depend on several factors, including:
  1. Institution type: whether you're aiming for teaching in universities or online platforms, the level of an education institution can impact the minimum qualification required (e.g. universities, English language centers, primary or high schools, online platforms, one-on-one tutoring, etc)
  2. Location: Specific countries or regions have varying requirements, rules or preferences for English teachers, including visas. Sometimes, employers assist with visa applications if needed.
  3. English level: from conversational English to academic English - the level of English being taught will define your role requirements.
  4. Existing qualifications and experience: your existing qualifications and experience can play a big role in securing your desired job. Got a degree in underwater basket weaving? That surprisingly might just give you an edge! Generally speaking, any qualifications (e.g. a degree in any field) or experience will boost your chances of landing your dream job.

These elements come together to craft your unique employment opportunities after completing a TESOL Course.

Since the world of English teaching is widely diverse, we encourage you to research the requirements for the countries and jobs that interest you. Conducting a job search is the best way to discover your options. So go on, your dream job awaits!
Can I do the Course 100% Online?
Yes! We even have online practical placements options available via video conferencing, with English learners based in India (adult learners) or Thailand (primary, high school or university level options). Generally these sessions take place in the early evening due to the time-zones.

Alternatively, you can also choose to complete your placement in person. We may be able to connect you with a host organisation from our network or you may choose to contact a local organisation (minimum requirements apply for placement).
CAN I COMPLETE THE COURSE QUICKLY?
Yes, you can work through the course at your own pace. It comes down to how quickly you work through the course assessment and complete it to a satisfactory standard.

The time it takes to complete depends on:
  • your English language knowledge and competence
  • your motivation to finish the Course quickly
  • your desire to do extra study and research along the way
  • how much time you spend studying each week
  • your past experience with any kind of teaching or learning
  • other personal factors such as health, family, financial and employment circumstances

To help you along the way, there are pre-recorded training videos available 24 / 7, along with textbook content and additional learning resources. You also get allocated a distance Trainer who you can contact for support via phone, email or schedule a video call.

The assessment is competency-based. This means that you will be graded as 'competent' (C) or 'not yet competent' (NYC). The pace at which you work through the course content and assessment is up to you. You need to be assessed as competent in all of the assessment tasks (including practical placement) in order to be awarded your qualification.

You will be given opportunities to resubmit your assessment if it is not to a satisfactory standard. Your Trainer will also provide you with specific feedback on the areas that you need to improve.
WHICH TESOL COURSE LEVEL IS BEST FOR ME?
Before deciding which level is best for you, it is a good idea to consider what you ideally want to do once you finish your course, as this will affect which course is the right fit.

A quick 1 minute read overview is below.

International TESOL Certificate is for those wanting entry level English teaching skills  with 9 hours of placement, and don't require a government accredited qualification. We can offer this training program for a very low price because it doesn't have the costs associated with accredited training, but it still provides the foundational, essential skills needed to teach English.

Certificate IV in English Language Teaching (TESOL) is an Australian Accredited qualification (Course code 11021NAT) and is for those wanting general English teaching skills. It includes one elective unit and 12 hours of practical placement. It is one of the most popular qualifications globally and provides a solid base for someone wanting to teach English in a variety of situations.

Diploma of English Language Teaching (TESOL) is close to the Cert IV in terms of popularity, but it covers a lot more. It's for those wanting English teaching skills PLUS program design and coordination skills. It's also an Australian Accredited qualification (Course code 11020NAT) and includes 20 hours of practical placement. It's the qualification that people choose when they want to maximise their employment opportunities and responsibilities (e.g. be employed in a role requiring English program design). It's a big qualification to take on, but you will also get a lot out of it.
HOW DOES FLEXIBLE LEARNING WORK?
Our online TESOL Courses are a self-paced option for people who need the flexibility to fit study in around work or life commitments.

You can choose when to do your course work, as these courses don't have set study days or times that you must attend.

To help you get through the TESOL Course, you'll have:
  • Pre-recorded training videos available 24/7
  • Additional learning resources (e.g. example videos of ESL teaching practices, free English training resource links, example ESL activities and sample Lesson plans, etc)
  • Guided learning tasks with additional tutorial videos are available if you get stuck on how to complete a task. Assessment ranges from multiple choice and short answer questions to project work involving case studies and lesson planning.
  • One-on-one support provided by a dedicated Trainer who is assigned to you from start to finish. Chat to them by email, phone or video calls, whatever works best.
  • E-copy textbook: TESOL Made Practical For All Situations (ISBN 978-0-9871861-1-9). An option to purchase printed paperback version is available if preferred.
  • Online practical placement opportunities available. Or, depending on your location, we may be recommend an in person placement organisation from our network of providers who have hosted our graduates.

If you're still not sure about how you could fit study into your life, you might find our "8 Tips for studying from home" blog post useful.
